Really Thinking Outside the Box
An expression that’s practically cliché is thinking outside the box. People have overused it to the point that it’s hard to tell what’s truly outside the box. For example, some companies think that using shoe covers is thinking outside the box, but it’s not; that’s what every quality service provider should be doing. For some people, it’s not always easy to be an innovator or a visionary, but when we borrow methods from outside industries, we are thinking outside the box and the nice thing is most of the risk is removed due to proven track records.
So, here’s a question for you, what do you think would produce more sales…a plumbing, electrical, or HVAC service and repair shop who’s employees are expected to sell, or a sales firm that specializes in electrical, plumbing or HVAC services? When it comes to making sales, we know that attitude is everything, but what you’ll find in a sales firm is a different culture, the attitudes are different; the vibe is different. It’s a well-known fact that we reflect our environment and it’s a little difficult to be a top producer in an environment that’s not conducive to selling; it’s challenging to say the least.
So, if you want your team to produce more, try creating more of a sales-like environment, and this all starts with the management. The bottom line is if a manager is motivating and inspiring, he’ll create an upbeat, enthusiastic environment and his employees will be motivated and inspired to produce. So, if you want to build a team of high producing superstars, consider changing the environment. |
