Exposing Our Best Features
Okay, so we know this is a highly competitive market, but what are we doing to separate ourselves from our competitors? What I find is when I call a company and I’m put on hold, I learn more about different kinds of products they offer from the on hold message, than I do from their own employees. When a client gets on line, I ask them about the products and they say, yeah, we carry them, but we don’t sell many.
The thing is if we don’t let customers know about all the great products and services we offer and all the reasons why they should have them and why they should do business with us, how would they know? The bottom line is we’re in business to make money. We need to get really good at letting everyone know what we do and why we do it. For example, I had a client who gave customers a discount if they donated food and twice a year they gave away a ton of food to different shelters and I take my hat off to them for doing it. However, they missed a gigantic opportunity to gain exposure, to create a buzz and to make sales.
First, get the news crew out to the company to let the public see all the food that was collected and have interviews with the business owner and technicians to show how it has touched their lives. When the food is being delivered to the charity, have the news crew out again to show the happy faces and the handshaking and hugging going on. And, in another six months, it happens all over again with a different charity. There really are blockbuster opportunities to make companies shine, and in most cases, all it takes is the will and determination and a little creativity to make it happen.
